Located in the southwest of Shanghai, Jinshan district spans an area of 613 square kilometers. It borders the East China Sea to the east, Hangzhou Bay to the south, and Zhejiang province to the west.
Situated at the heart of the Yangtze River Delta — China's most economically vibrant urban cluster — the district leverages its unique geographical advantage to synchronize development with downtown Shanghai and Zhejiang province while absorbing their influences.
Jinshan is approximately a one-hour drive from 16 major node cities in the Yangtze River Delta region. With a 23.9-kilometer coastline, it administers one subdistrict, nine towns, two industrial zones, and has a population of around 820,000.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Jinshan district has been implementing the Baoshan-Jinshan Transformation Strategy, aiming to become a key platform for the "Shanghai Manufacturing Brand", a pioneering area for rural vitalization, and a bridgehead for high-quality integrated development in the Yangtze River Delta. The district is also accelerating its transformation into a dynamic, eco-friendly, and livable bay area characterized by open, innovative, smart, and low-carbon growth.
Jinshan features a "1+4+X+Y" industrial system:
"1" refers to the high-end, eco-friendly chemical industry.
"4" encompasses new materials, intelligent equipment, life sciences and healthcare, and information technology.
"X" includes specialized industries such as biopharmaceuticals, unmanned aerial vehicles, carbon fiber composite materials, and new display technologies.
"Y" covers producer services, including digital, integrated, innovative services, and the headquarters economy.
Key business support facilities in Jinshan include the Shanghai Bay High-Tech Industry Development Zone, Shanghai Carbon Valley Green Bay Industry Park, Fengjing Industrial Zone, and Zhujing Industrial Park.
