Situated in southern Shanghai and covering 733.38 square kilometers, Fengxian district serves as a vital western gateway to the Lin-gang Special Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone.
It functions as a key hub in southern Shanghai and a dynamic emerging town within the Yangtze River Delta region. As the sole district benefiting from dual policy incentives — the Lin-gang Special Area and the Zhangjiang National Innovation Demonstration Zone—Fengxian has experienced robust economic growth.
Leveraging platforms like the Oriental Beauty Valley and Future Space, the district's economy is driven by the beauty and health industry, along with the manufacturing of intelligent connected new energy vehicles (NEVs). During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Fengxian prioritizes high-quality development, fostering industrial clustering, enhancing scientific and technological innovation capabilities, and deepening opening-up and cooperation to modernize and elevate its competitiveness.
Key sectors in Fengxian include beauty and health, NEVs and intelligent connected vehicles, biopharmaceuticals, high-end equipment manufacturing, and modern services. Supporting infrastructure encompasses the Shanghai Comprehensive Industrial Development Zone, Shanghai Hangzhou Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone, the Oriental Beauty Valley, and Shanghai Lingang Fengxian Park.
