Liupan Mountains, located in Guyuan, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, stretch approximately 110 kilometers in length and five to 12 kilometers in width. Their key ecological functional zone spans 1.36 million mu (904,666.67 hectares). They constitute Ningxia's largest natural forest area, boasting the region's richest biodiversity and water resources, and are a vital component of the Yellow River's ecological corridor, holding strategic importance both regionally and nationally.
Liupan Mountains area is one of China's 32 inland biodiversity conservation zones, home to rare species, over 35 medicinal herbs, and 11 first-class national protected animals, including the golden eagle.
Guyuan has prioritized environmental preservation in Liupan Mountains for years through afforestation, forest expansion and protection.
The city has been consistently implementing key environmental projects, including creating water conservation forests and developing the Liupan Mountains Ecological Protection Corridor. These efforts have increased the region's forest coverage rate to 64.5 percent, turning it into a "green oasis of the plateau".
Conservation efforts now combine scientific monitoring, strict fire control, and intelligent management, ensuring the region's ecological security and sustainable development.
