The project recently achieved a major milestone with the successful installation of the 13th steel beam segment on the Hefei side, which weighs 991 metric tons. This signifies the beginning of the final phase in erecting the steel girders.
The project team from China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group reports significant progress in several key sections. All cast-in-place beams for the north approach bridge of the high-speed railway have been completed, while 90 percent of those for the intercity railway are also finished. On the Shanghai side, steel girders are planned to connect with their Hefei counterparts in November next year, facilitating the bridge's complete linkage.
The 4.09-kilometer bridge, a key part of the Yangtze River Delta High-Speed Railway network, crosses the Yangtze River estuary. Its innovative two-tier design features a six-lane highway on the upper level and twin high-speed rail lines (350 km/h) alongside intercity rail lines (250 km/h) beneath.
Once completed, the bridge will establish a vital corridor connecting the Shanghai, Nanjing, and Hefei metropolitan areas. It is pivotal for optimizing the regional rail network and advancing the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta and the broader Yangtze River Economic Belt.
