From matches to memories: Global athletes embrace Shanghai

Shanghai recently hosted the 2025 FIP Finals, the year-end championship of the International Padel Federation's global circuit, at the Yangpu Jiangwan Sports Center, offering more than just thrilling matches.
For many international athletes, it was their first glimpse of China, with the event becoming a gateway to experiencing Shanghai's vibrant culture.
Spanish athlete Eduardo Alonso praised the passionate local fans. The event featured autograph sessions and community interactions, where players engaged in fun activities like table tennis and taught padel techniques to local enthusiasts. This transformed the venue into a lively cultural exchange hub, highlighting the sport's universal appeal.
During breaks, athletes explored Yangpu district, enjoying its youthful energy and innovative spirit. They were impressed by Shanghai's efficient mobile payment system, extensive subway network, and diverse culinary offerings. "Everything is so convenient and lively," said an Argentine player.
The event marked a new chapter for padel tennis in China, showcasing Shanghai's strength in organizing international sporting events as well as its inclusiveness. Local fans experienced global sports culture firsthand, fueling interest in the sport. The International Padel Federation praised Shanghai as a capable host, boosting confidence in future events.
