Shanghai to make Fuxing Island an intl innovation and entrepreneurship hub
Fuxing Island in Shanghai's Yangpu district hosted the launch of the 10th Yangpu International Startup Competition and the World Young Scientists Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum on Dec 12.
The event unveiled the Fuxing Island International Innovation and Entrepreneurship Zone, designed to serve as a hub for global innovators and entrepreneurs and a pilot ground for integrating industry, academia and research.
The ceremony brought together top academicians, scientists, young talent, and past competition awardees.
Fuxing Island is uniquely positioned as an island of digital intelligence, design and arts, aiming to develop a comprehensive support system for the corporate lifecycle, talent services, and resource matchmaking.
To attract top minds from around the world, the "3310" High-Level Talent Introduction and Cultivation Action Plan (2026-30) was announced at the event. This plan aims to establish a support system aligning with regional industrial foundations and global talent strategies.
Ten experts from academia, industry, and investment were appointed as chief mentors. They will leverage their expertise and networks to support the island's innovation and entrepreneurship efforts.
Additionally, the Shanghai Center of the World Association of Young Scientists was established. The center will focus on fields like the digital economy and AI, supporting young researchers worldwide and accelerating the commercialization of research results.
Agreements were signed with 11 domestic and international talent representatives to implement major projects in AI, new energy, and biomedicine, injecting new energy into the district's economy.
The 10th Yangpu International Startup Competition will host events around the world, playing off initiatives like Shanghai Talent+ and the Chunhui Cup. It offers over 100 million yuan ($14.19 billion) in support funds, providing comprehensive guidance and services.
Since 2016, the competition has attracted over 8,000 innovation projects and recognized 958 entrepreneurs, with supported enterprises generating significant tax revenues.
Yangpu district pledges to enhance its innovation ecosystem, empowering talent development through a comprehensive system of attraction, cultivation, utilization, and retention.
