Qingpu district in Shanghai is accelerating its push to become a Yangtze River Delta innovation hub, drawing momentum from frontier technologies, major corporate platforms, supply chain services and cross-regional cooperation.

At the Shanghai Midea Global Innovation Park, the Shanghai NearLink Open Lab is testing how NearLink, a new-generation short-range wireless communication technology developed in China, can be used in daily life. The lab has gathered more than 10 council members, with Shanghai HiSilicon providing chip support, Midea offering smart terminal scenarios and Shanghai Jiao Tong University contributing research strength.

"Qingpu will make every effort to develop itself into a key innovation hub in the Yangtze River Delta," said Wang Ping, the district's Party secretary.

Huawei Lianqiu Lake R&D Center has further reshaped Qingpu's role from a western edge of Shanghai into a strategic node linking the city with the wider delta. Companies and government bodies are increasingly seeking to connect with Huawei's ecosystem and Qingpu's resources. So far, Qingpu has worked with the Yangtze River Delta integration demonstration zone, Wujiang and Jiashan to produce 161 institutional innovation outcomes, 61 of which have been promoted nationwide.

Qingpu is also expanding from single-point innovation to broader functions. In Baihe town, a sea-export pre-consolidation warehouse helps cross-border e-commerce goods complete procedures in Qingpu before being shipped to Shanghai's ports.

Ye Junjun, deputy director of the town's economic development office, said the model allows goods to be concentrated at the warehouse and doubles logistics efficiency.

Backed by the China International Import Expo, headquarters enterprises, the "cross-border e-commerce plus industrial belt" pilot zone in Hongqiao CBD, the Xicen Sci-tech Innovation Center and other industrial innovation platforms in the Yangtze River Delta integration demonstration zone, Qingpu is transforming its location advantages into stronger innovation momentum and service capacity.
