Cooking teacher from Jinhua promotes Chinese food in Rwanda

Lou taught cooking theories at his classes and guided their cooking practice as well. He said that figuring out how to introduce Chinese ingredients and cooking skills was the most difficult thing and he had to make explanations in a way that African people might understand.

"Preparing the classes usually took me a lot of time as I needed to translate Chinese into English and French. Sometimes I also marked chemical names of the ingredients to help them understand," said Lou.

Emile Abayisenga, principal of Musanze Polytechnic, appreciated Lou's efforts in the school, saying there's a shortage of skilled people in Rwanda and with the advancement of China's Belt and Road Initiative, students are gaining more job opportunities.

Outside the campus, Lou also offered guidance to local restaurants, helping them develop new dishes, innovating operation mode and training employees. He has also contributed to setting the standards of Chinese cuisine in Rwanda.
