The enterprises being incubated in East China's Zhejiang province have created more than 280,000 jobs, a report from China's Ministry of Science and Technology showed on June 13.

According to the report, which was released at the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Summit in Hangzhou on Thursday, there are a total of 943 incubators for startups in Zhejiang, up 45.1 percent than 2017. In 2018, 29,812 enterprises were being incubated in the province, an increase of 22.9 percent from the previous year.

Zhejiang is now home to two national demonstration zones for independent innovation and eight national high-tech zones. The innovation-driven development strategy in the East China province has yielded fruitful results, especially in the high-tech sector. Zhejiang is currently planning to build a "sci-tech brain" by mapping out all scientific and technological resources across the province.

At the forum in Hangzhou, artificial intelligence (AI), a new technology which is bringing profound changes to people's lives, became the topic of heated discussion.

Fang Ming, assistant to the president of China's major AI company iFlytek, introduced their latest AI electronic translator at the forum. He expects that within a decade, language barriers will be removed by virtue of new technologies such as this.

Ji Pengsong, chairman of ANKON Technologies Co Ltd, focused on the application of AI technology in healthcare, saying that AI can make medical examination more efficient and accurate.

The development of new technologies relies on financial support. One investor suggested that entrepreneurs, especially those involved in startups, should attach more importance to basic data, which he believes is vital to technological development.
