The "mountain-sea coordination project" will be further promoted to ensure the coordinated development of regions in the province, according to a news conference in Lishui on July 25.

The mountainous areas in southwestern Zhejiang and the islands in Zhoushan are less-developed regions, while the coastal cities and districts are economically prosperous. The "mountain-sea coordination project", first initiated in 2001, is designed to achieve balanced and coordinated development of different parts of Zhejiang.

Che Jun, Party chief of the East China province, urged all parties to speed up infrastructure construction and enhance cooperation among different regions in industries, education, healthcare and elderly care. He said concrete efforts should be made to bring struggling villages out of poverty and deal with the imbalance and insufficiency of regional development.

Governor of Zhejiang Yuan Jiajun proposed the upgrading of the project in the new era, with the aim of bridging the development gap between urban and rural areas with new concepts. He stressed the importance of innovative-driven and green development, and innovation in coordinative mechanisms.

The governor also said a batch of key projects is being planned for the integrated high-quality development of the entire province.
