Zhejiang residents can now settle their outpatient medical bills on-the-spot in designated hospitals in Jiangsu province with their medical insurance cards, and the same is true for Jiangsu residents in Zhejiang hospitals, according to the Zhejiang Medical Insurance Center.

Currently there are 461 pilot medical institutions offering the service in Jiangsu province and 135 in Zhejiang.

"The pilot medical institutions in Jiangsu bring us one step closer to implementing the program throughout the entire Yangtze River Delta region," said an official from the center.

Statistics show that there are now 457 medical institutions in Zhejiang allowing interprovincial medical bill settlement for residents from elsewhere in the Yangtze River Delta region.

From Jan 1 to Sept 30, 94,041 Zhejiang residents settled more than 23.3 million yuan ($3.3 million) of outpatient medical bills in Shanghai hospitals with their medical insurance cards, while 4,953 Shanghai residents settled 804,900 yuan in Zhejiang hospitals.

Zhejiang will continue to promote the service at hospitals in Anhui, another province in the delta region, said local authorities.
