Shaoxing in Zhejiang province aims to deepen cooperation with Beijing through a four-day event held in the capital from Nov 4 to 7.

More than 500 representatives of companies, government, organizations in Beijing attended the opening ceremony of the Beijing-Shaoxing Week on Nov 4. 

"We hope to learn a lot from Beijing through the event, including the philosophy and practices behind the city’s urban governance, as well as how the city’s entrepreneurs manage to achieve so much success," said Ma Weiguang, Party chief of Shaoxing.

Ma added that Shaoxing will speed up development of its industries, culture, and tourism and work to improve its environment and business climate. He extended an invitation to Beijing representatives to visit and cooperate with Shaoxing in the future. 

Shaoxing authorities introduced their plans to build a coastal new area, scientific innovation corridor and cultural innovation corridor, and discussed their emerging industries and budding cultural tourism. 

The city currently boasts three traditional industries – textile manufacturing, chemical engineering and metal processing – and four emerging industries – high-end equipment, electronic information, modern pharmaceuticals, and new materials.

Seventeen projects worth more than 16.4 billion yuan ($2.3 billion) were signed between Shaoxing and Beijing.

The four-day event also includes an exhibition of Shaoxing’s ancient books, a forum for Shaoxing youth in Beijing, a meeting for Shaoxing businessmen in Beijing, and a show featuring Shaoxing's various operas.
