Shaoxing in Zhejiang province was recently approved by the provincial government to establish a new zone to bolster local development.

Shaoxing Coastal New Area will play a significant role in driving the integrated development of Shaoxing, Ningbo and Hangzhou and accelerate the development of the Great Bay Area of Zhejiang, said local authorities.

The area is one of four new zones to be built for the specific purpose of boosting development in the Great Bay Area, with Hangzhou Qiantang New Area, Huzhou Nantaihu New Area and Ningbo Front Bay New Area all having been approved from April to July.

The four areas focus on high-tech industries such as high-end manufacturing, new materials and bio-pharmaceuticals.

Shaoxing has been striving to integrate with Ningbo and Hangzhou in recent years, which was also included in this year's annual government report of Zhejiang. To this end, the city has launched a series of policies and plans.
