WZ Group, a company based in Zhejiang province, has been helping improve corn planting in Jilin province since 2018 through a so-called "Dew Project".

The traditional corn planting industry in Northeast China has long been plagued by a lack of technology, customers, and financing.

The "Dew Project" helps by ensuring the production and sales of local corn, said Gu Wei, a manager at WZ Group, explaining that local family farms plant the corn while the company provides financial, technical and management services and helps farmers sell their corn via the company's dedicated online platform.

"Since the project began, my family's corn plantation has grown from 1,200 hectares to 4,200 hectares, and we're no longer worried about if we'll be able to sell it," said Wang Hongyan, a farmer in Taonan city in Jilin.

Thanks to the project, the province's corn yield has grown from 6,780 kilograms per hectare to 9,645 kilograms, statistics show.

The company has also provided insurance for local farmers to help them guard against potential risks.

"We only need to pay 48.51 yuan ($6.86) in premiums to ensure 19,147 yuan of yield per hectare," said Wang.

The project has benefited more than 3,000 farmer households, created over 13,000 jobs and generated revenue of more than 2 million yuan.

The company plans to promote the project in other provinces in Northeast China such as Heilongjiang and Liaoning.

WZ Group is a famous company specializing in the distribution of bulk commodities. It ranked 270th among Fortune Global 500 companies in 2018.
