Many private companies in Zhejiang are working tirelessly during the outbreak to produce and send supplies to locals and those on the frontlines in Wuhan, the city hardest hit by the epidemic in China.

Large corporations such as beverage giant Wahaha Group, automaker Geely, and smart energy solutions provider Chint have mobilized all their subsidiaries and branches around the world to purchase protective supplies and send them to hospitals in Wuhan and Hangzhou.

Chaomei, a face mask manufacturer in Jiande, a county-level city in Hangzhou, made an announcement on Jan 21 calling on employees to work during the holiday and promised them three times their normal wages. A total of 120 employees returned and have produced nearly 2 million masks within 10 days, which were later sold all over the country at their regular price.

Yilida, one of China's leading engineering fan producers, recently received an urgent order for 190 engineering fans from Leishenshan Hospital, an under-construction makeshift hospital for treating patients infected with the novel coronavirus, and immediately arranged for employees to work overtime, allowing it to deliver all 190 fans within three days.

ERA, one of China's largest manufacturers of chemical building materials, also provided free pipelines for the hospital.

In addition, many fresh food e-commerce platforms, including Freshippo, Alibaba's fresh food chain, have been working for more than half a month to ensure there are enough food supplies.

"We are pulling out all the stops to ensure that all shelves are filled with food. Sometimes, we even have to restock the shelves seven or eight times," said Hou Yi, an executive of Hema Fresh.
