Jiaxing Port, an important transportation hub in the Yangtze River Delta region, has achieved a new milestone by launching two 64-TEU container shipping lines to Yushi in Tongxiang and Wuhu in Anhui province on Aug 30.

This means that 64-TEU container vessels can now carry out river-sea intermodal transport in northern Zhejiang and the YRD region.

This initiative is part of Jiaxing Port's efforts to become a world-class port. The port is pushing forward the construction of four 1,000-ton-class waterways and 10 coastal 10,000-ton-class berths and will open another three 64-TEU container shipping lines in the province this year.

Jiaxing Port has made remarkable achievements in infrastructure construction, port throughput, and shipping services. It has 123 productive berths, including 41 above 10,000 metric tons in the outer sea. It has risen to 75th place in the 2022 ranking of the world's top 100 container ports. It completed a container throughput of 2.85 million TEUs in 2022, of which nearly 90 percent were connected to the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port.

By 2027, Jiaxing Port's container throughput is expected to exceed 5 million TEUs and enter the top 10 in China and top 30 in the world. Its container throughput via river-sea intermodal transportation is expected to reach 2 million TEUs.
