Quzhou holds Climate Change Action Forum

The first Climate Change Action Forum was held in Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, on Sept 2.

The forum was held in conjunction with the 2023 annual meeting of the Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences.

The forum's tagline was "coordinating the promotion of carbon reduction, pollution reduction, and green expansion". The forum was aimed at gathering wisdom and broadening viewpoints in response to climate change.

The forum was divided into a main forum and parallel sub-forums. At the main forum, keynote speeches were delivered by academicians and experts on climate change.

Xie Zhenhua, China's special envoy for climate change, said that responding to climate change is the duty of all of mankind. He emphasized the need to actively participate in global climate governance and make contributions to global sustainable development.

Zhao Yingmin, vice-minister of ecology and the environment, highlighted the importance of promoting green and low-carbon transformation and sustainable economic growth.

Xu Zhangyan, mayor of Quzhou, expressed hope that the forum would serve as an opportunity for Quzhou to accelerate the exploration of beneficial paths and effective models for green and low-carbon development. He also expressed hope that academicians and experts would continue to support Quzhou's development.
