More than 2,000 torches for the 19th Asian Games were delivered by Fotile, a kitchen appliance maker in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, on Sept 4.

The torch for the Games has been named "Eternal Flame" and was designed by a team from the China Academy of Art. It takes its design cues from a type of jadeware called cong, which was used as a sacrificial vessel in Liangzhu Culture 4,300 to 5,300 years ago.

The torch relay for the Games will start in the host city of Hangzhou on Sept 8 and cover 11 cities in Zhejiang province until Sept 20, when 2,022 torch bearers will attend.

At the torch delivery ceremony held in Ningbo on Sept 4, over 2,000 torches produced by Fotile were packaged and prepared to be transported to the 11 cities.

The torch production team from Fotile developed four techniques to ensure the stability of the flame.

"Twenty-two members of the team spent over two years manufacturing the torches for the Hangzhou Asian Games. We are excited about the delivery," said Li Yongsan, a manager at the company.

"According to a third-party evaluation, it can keep burning in a gale or medium rainfall while its flame is still visible," said Du Zuofeng, deputy commander of the torch relay command center for the Hangzhou Asian Games.
