A grand ceremony paying tribute to Huangdi, a legendary ancestor of the Chinese nation, will be held in Jinyun county of Lishui city, East China's Zhejiang province, on Oct 23, local authorities announced on Oct 16.

The ceremony coincides with the Double Ninth Festival, a traditional Chinese festival that involves respecting the elderly and climbing mountains.

Huangdi, also known as the Yellow Emperor, is believed to have been the sovereign of a united China around 5,000 years ago. He is seen as a symbol of Chinese civilization and a source of national identity.

The ceremony will consist of nine rituals, including the sounding of horns, offering incense, presenting flower baskets, dedicating wine, reading sacrificial text, bowing, singing praise songs, and performing music and dance.

It will also feature 14 sub-activities, such as the Sixth Academic Symposium on Huangdi Culture in China and themed exhibitions and performances of Huangdi culture.

Jinyun county is known for its beautiful scenery and rich culture. Since 2021, when the ceremony paying tribute to Huangdi was hosted by the Zhejiang provincial government, Jinyun has leveraged the ceremony as a means of enhancing its reputation and promoting itself.
