The Huanglong Sports Centre in Hangzhou has recently turned its second-floor swimming area into a multifunctional sports court suitable for both badminton and basketball.

Before its renovation, the swimming and diving hall had been open to the public. Its spacious design and high-quality water had earned praise from swimmers. However, with the conclusion of the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023, the center aimed to repurpose the space to better serve the community.

Han Yu, an official at Huanglong Sports Centre, explained that the decision to transform the hall was part of a broader strategy to optimize the use of the entire venue.

Given that the center already houses two other swimming facilities, converting the second-floor pool area was a practical move to avoid the waste of resources and enhance the facility's versatility.

Over approximately five months, the nearly 2,000-square-meter area underwent a significant transformation. The modular pool was dismantled, replaced by wooden flooring, and equipped with eight badminton courts and one basketball court. The new setup features standardized facilities and seating areas.

Han further noted that the renovations extended beyond the pool area to include installing an electrically heated canopy for diving activities. Essentially, the entire three-story swimming and diving hall received an upgrade.

The badminton and basketball facilities are particularly popular, with peak times often fully booked. Available slots are mainly during weekday daytime hours. Reservations can be made through a WeChat mini-program or directly at the venue.
