In the first half of 2024, Yiwu's express delivery volume reached an impressive 6 billion parcels, marking a 16.7-percent year-on-year increase.

The total revenue from these deliveries amounted to 14.24 billion yuan ($1.96 billion). Notably, the volume of international and Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan express deliveries grew by 17.7 percent, reaching 25.35 million parcels.

"Based on the latest data from the State Post Bureau, Yiwu's express delivery volume accounted for approximately 7 percent of the national total in the first half of the year, ranking first among county-level cities nationwide," said Wang Dongsheng, official at the Yiwu Postal Administration.

Chen Shaomei, head of Minsa Sports in the Yiwu International Trade Market, noted that despite July typically being a slow season for sports goods wholesale, sales have remained robust due to major sporting events like the UEFA European Championship, Copa America, and the upcoming Paris Olympics.

According to Chen, in the first half of the year, sales of products such as soccer balls increased by over 30 percent year-on-year. Customers from Europe, the United States, and Southeast Asia, placing small wholesale orders through cross-border e-commerce platforms, have significantly contributed to this growth.

With the continuous improvement of logistics infrastructure, especially for cross-border logistics, the variety of goods shipped from Yiwu has expanded. This year, sports goods, jewelry, clothing, daily necessities, and pet supplies have become particularly popular. The US, Japan, Europe, and several Southeast Asian countries have seen rapid growth in cross-border e-commerce parcel volumes in the first half of the year.
