An emergency hospital recently built in Longyan city, East China's Fujian province started treating patients on Feb 14, according to local media reports.

Modeled on Beijing's Xiaotangshan Hospital, which treated severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) cases in 2003, the makeshift hospital, which started construction on Jan 29, is being used to treat confirmed patients infected by the novel coronavirus pneumonia.

With a building area of about 9,000 square meters, the hospital is equipped with 166 beds and advanced facilities, including negative-pressure wards and smart systems, ensuring that all novel coronavirus pneumonia patients in the city can be hospitalized in a timely manner and receive proper treatment.

According to the manager of the construction unit, the hospital can use smart systems to conduct online video consultations with the country's top medical advisers and doctors, providing support for the treatment of patients suffering from the novel coronavirus pneumonia.

As of Feb 16, Longyan had recorded six confirmed cases of the coronavirus, and there have been no new confirmed cases in city over the past eight days, according to the Fujian Provincial Health Commission.
