Every year, from April to September, critically endangered Chinese crested terns make their annual visit to the Minjiang River Estuary Wetland in Fuzhou, Fujian province, along with many other species.

The wetland, which spans an area of 2,382 hectares, serves as an important stopover along the East Asian-Australasian flyway. It has a high density and variety of waterfowl, including other rare species such as the spoon-billed sandpiper and the black-faced spoonbill.
