Three Fujian cities ranked among top 100 Chinese cities in terms of innovation capability

The Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China recently released the National Innovative Cities Innovation Capability Evaluation Report 2023, which featured three cities in Fujian province: Xiamen (18th), Fuzhou (41st), and Quanzhou (89th).

A national innovative city is defined as a city with strong independent innovation capabilities, outstanding scientific and technological support, high levels of sustainable economic and social development. It should also play a significant role in boosting regional progress.

The comprehensive evaluation was based on 30 indicators across five categories, including innovation governance, original innovation, technological innovation, and commercialization of results.

In terms of innovation governance score, Xiamen, Fuzhou, and Quanzhou were ranked 12th, 38th, and 80th respectively.

The report also emphasizes that each city should highlight its advantages and characteristics based on its resource endowment, industrial characteristics and development level. Cities should also explore new paths for innovative development.
