Internationally renowned artist Cai Guoqiang, a native of Quanzhou, presented a spectacular daytime firework and drone show titled "Red Sail" in Quanzhou, East China's Fujian province, on Dec 8.
The performance, centered around Quanzhou's history, traditional culture, and women, unfolded in three captivating acts over the course of 20 minutes, featuring a low-altitude showcase with 2,000 drones.
The first act, "Red Sail", unveiled a mesmerizing golden sailboat crafted by drones, transitioning gracefully from shades of gold, orange, and red to a regal purple before vanishing into the twilight's embrace.
In the subsequent act, "Zanhua (floral headdress) ", layers of floral headdresses ascended into the sky, symbolizing the journey of a woman from youth to old age.
The final act, "World", depicted Cai's journey from his homeland to the outside world and finally back again.
As the performance drew to a close, a symphony of trumpets and drums heralded the launch of 1,000 twinkling rockets, forming a magnificent pyramid that illuminated the night sky. The special guest cAI™ added a unique touch to the event.
Cai expressed his desire for the "Red Sail" to commemorate the inception of Frank Gehry's first building on the Chinese mainland, the Quanzhou Museum of Contemporary Art (QMoCA). He also hoped to show friendship, affection and long-lasting attachment to his hometown behind the QMoCA project.
Looking ahead, Cai plans to continue enriching Quanzhou's urban art landscape with his distinct artistic vision. The Cai Guoqiang's fireworks shows are poised to evolve into a distinguished cultural landmark and a fresh emblem of Quanzhou's cultural tourism.
