Fuzhou Airport launched a much-anticipated service to the Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean on Dec 18, marking China's first direct flight to the island nation.

The exclusive route from Fuzhou, capital of East China's Fujian province, is currently the only one connecting China and the Solomons.

China and the Solomon Islands have signed an agreement to waive visa requirements for each other's citizens, effective on Dec 28. The landmark accord paves the way for full visa-free access between the two countries, greatly facilitating travel and fostering cooperation across various sectors.

The new flight service will offer enhanced convenience for tourists from Fujian and beyond, enabling seamless business engagements and tourism to the Solomon Islands.

Starting on Dec 18, the route departs from Fuzhou, with a stopover in Manado city, Indonesia, before reaching Honiara, capital of the Solomon Islands. Operating once a week on Wednesdays, the flight will depart from Fuzhou at 11:00 pm and return on Thursdays.

Situated in the South Pacific, the Solomon Islands boast a tropical rainforest climate and comprise over 900 islands.

The region is renowned for its rich biodiversity, particularly in marine life. With numerous plant species unique to the islands and pristine waters ideal for diving, the islands offer tremendous potential for tourism development.
