The symposium commemorating the 30th anniversary of the strategic vision for building a "Maritime Fuzhou" was held in Fuzhou, capital of East China's Fujian province, on Dec 23.
Introduced in May 1994, the strategic vision of developing a "Maritime Fuzhou" leaded to significant and sustained growth in the city's marine economy.
At the symposium, Sun Shuxian, vice-minister of Ministry of Natural Resources and director of the State Oceanic Administration, emphasized the importance of summarizing and promoting Fuzhou's experience pursuing the "Maritime Fuzhou" strategy. Key aspects inclfuude boosting marine development through technology and innovation, prioritizing ecology and the harmonious coexistence of humans and oceans, promoting cross-Strait integration, fostering opening and cooperation, and more.
Guo Ningning, vice-governor of Fujian, stated that Fuzhou will take the 30th anniversary of the implementation of the Maritime Fuzhou strategy as a new starting point. Focusing on strengthening the sea with industry, developing the sea with science and technology, and more, efforts will be made to accelerate the creation of a more advanced "Maritime Fuzhou". The long-term goal is to develop into a national-level marine economic development demonstration zone.
During the symposium, a blue book showcasing the achievements of the 30th anniversary of "Maritime Fuzhou" was unveiled. The book, divided into seven sections, includes the rapid development of the marine economy, remarkable achievements in marine ecological civilization, and more. It illustrates that industries including modern fishery, harbor industry, and coastal tourism have become "blue engines" driving the development of Fuzhou's marine economy.
The blue book introduces the core content of the "Maritime Fuzhou" strategy, showcasing the city's achievements in the marine economy and ecology over the past three decades while providing insights into future prospects for building a "Maritime Fuzhou" in the new era.
