Continuing its soaring momentum during the just concluded Spring Festival holiday, the animated blockbuster Ne Zha: Demon Child Conquers the Sea (Ne Zha 2) claimed the top spot on China's all-time box office charts.
The stunning special effects in Ne Zha 2 captivated audiences worldwide. Behind this visually captivating film are the significant contributions of Fujian enterprises.
One of the companies involved in the post-production of this film is Fujian-based Base (Xiamen) Culture Development Co Ltd.
As a prominent player in China's film visual effects industry, Base Media established its branch in Xiamen in 2014, specializing in the development and production of 3D animated films. They have played a vital role in creating special effects for films like Ne Zha and Jiang Ziya.
Chen Lingxiao, an animator from Fuzhou, contributed to modeling key scenes in Ne Zha 2. The Yuxugong and Chentangguan scenes were crafted by his studio, Xiaoyuhanfei Cultural Creative Studio in Fuzhou, infusing ancient myths with modern technology.
Another animated film released during the Spring Festival, Boonie Bears: Future Reborn, had half of its duration completed in Xiamen. Since 2016, Fantawild Animation, the producer of Boonie Bears, has operated a subsidiary in Xiamen's Tong'an district, overseeing the production of major films.
Fujian's vibrant participation in the film industry is not by chance. With 806 film production companies, 26 cinema lines, 403 cinemas, and three major film and television bases in Xiamen, Pingtan, and Taining, Fujian has strategically positioned itself as a hub for film and television production. The province boasts 20 outdoor shooting locations, completing the essential industrial layout of film and television bases.
In recent years, Fujian has been producing over 20 films annually, with 10 films surpassing one billion yuan in box office revenue. The Fujian film and television industry continues strengthening its efforts.
