A spectacular show blending Quanzhou's intangible cultural heritage with modern fashion opened on Dec 11 in Quanzhou, marking the start of the 2025 Maritime Silk Road International Cultural Tourism Festival. This event served as an aesthetic dialogue bridging millennia.
The show drew inspiration from Quanzhou's traditional cultural heritage, including Nanyin music, puppet shows, Gaojia opera, Dehua porcelain, Xunpu women's customs, Hui'an women's attire, and bamboo weaving. These elements were reimagined through fashion, transforming silent heritage into dynamic trends.
The theme of "World sharing" was highlighted in the third segment, featuring performances from Egypt, Vietnam, Thailand, and Serbia. Each performance showcased the distinctiveness of its culture, underscoring the event's role as a bridge of rich cultural heritage.
A special segment focused on the innovative power of fashion design. Fashion pieces co-created by China Fashion Design Top Award-winning designer Chen Yu and Bazaar's "Amazing Intangible Cultural Heritage" project were showcased on the runway.
The collection expertly integrated the aesthetic essence of Quanzhou's heritage: the structured tailoring of Hui'an women's attire, the layered design of Xunpu floral hairpins, and the ethereal quality of Yongchun paper weaving were transformed into modern silhouettes, textures, and patterns. Models wearing these garments silently declared that ICH is not a relic of the past but a wellspring of contemporary design inspiration, achieving a balance between tradition and fashion.
The show demonstrated that ancient cultural heritage can shine not only in history but also at the forefront of contemporary fashion, engaging in dialogue with other world civilizations.
