The city of Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province, enjoys a unique geographic location in the middle of Guizhou province, neighboring Yunnan province to the west, Sichuan province to the north, the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region to the south and Hunan province to the east. Guiyang is an important hub of traffic and communication in the southwestern region of the country, as well as a comprehensive industrial base and a national scenic area.
During the 8th Summit for Subnational Governments and Cities, an official parallel event to CBD COP16, the second batch of "Biodiversity Charming Cities Best Practices" and a new group of cities joined the Cities With Nature Initiative was announced, with Guiyang in Southwest China's Guizhou province being chosen.
