Inner Mongolia sets standards for new zero-carbon industrial park

2023-05-05 (goinnermongolia.com.cn)

The Inner Mongolia regional standards for a zero-carbon industrial park that is set to be built in the region were clarified on April 28.

They take Ordos Zero-Carbon Industrial Park as a reference point and were launched in the wake of the "Green Power Application Evaluation Method" that was released at the end of last year.

The standards relate to the construction, management, and operation of zero-carbon industrial parks, and provide detailed regulations for building such parks in terms of planning layout, statistical accounting, emissions reduction, and evaluation and improvement.

For example, they require that renewable energy should be used first under the premise of ensuring safety and quality, and the proportion of renewable energy used in zero-carbon parks should not be less than 80 percent.

The working group of the China National Institute of Standardization, which is responsible for drafting them, stated this is the first set of local standards for zero-carbon industrial parks issued by a local government in the country.

It draws on the practical experience gained in the construction and management of Ordos zero-carbon industrial parks to ensure that any new developments are in line with international standards.

The goal is to plug the gap in domestic standards in the field of zero-carbon park construction and green power evaluation, and provide a scientific basis for the construction and transformation of Inner Mongolia's zero-carbon parks.

Implementing the standards is expected to boost regional economic, industrial and energy structure transformation and upgrading.
