Ganqimaodu Port reopens passenger clearance after 3 years

After a three-year hiatus, Ganqimaodu Port and Gashuun Sukhait Port on the China-Mongolia border have resumed passenger clearance services.

"This is a major event that the people of China and Mongolia have been eagerly looking forward to, and a vital factor in promoting exchanges, development and cooperation," said the deputy director of the Ganqimaodu Port Management Committee at a ceremony marking the reopening of passenger clearance on Nov 13.

Located in Urad Middle Banner of Bayannuur city in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, Ganqimaodu Port is a first-class land port and an essential energy import channel in China. It also ranks as the road port with the largest clearance volume and trade value in the autonomous region.

It sees an annual passenger flow of 200,000 people.

At the exit-entry border checkpoint of Ganqimaodu Port, Sun Qinglin said he often has to travel between the two countries for work.

During the three years and nine months when the passenger clearance was suspended due to the pandemic, he was forced to take lengthy detours every time he traveled.

"Now that the clearance service has resumed, I no longer need to take the long way around and can directly pass through the port to return home." Sun said.
