The National Development and Reform Commission recently announced its first batch of carbon peak pilot sites, which includes Ordos and Baotou cities, as well as the Chifeng High-tech Industrial Development Zone in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

In terms of economic foundation, the regional GDP of Ordos and Baotou in 2022 reached 561.34 billion yuan ($76.90 billion) and 374.99 billion yuan respectively, ranking first and second in the region. The GDP of the Chifeng High-tech Industrial Development Zone in 2022 came in at 101.49 billion yuan, ranking first among the nine parks declared in Inner Mongolia.

Ordos is a typical resource-based city, Baotou is a comprehensive industrial city, and the Chifeng High-tech Industrial Development Zone has a diversified industrial structure. The inclusion of these three locations for carbon peak pilot construction is for demonstrative purposes.
