In a recent update from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional Port Management Office, it was noted that the automated guided vehicle (AGV) intelligent customs clearance and container supervision facility at Ganqimaodu Port in Inner Mongolia had passed inspection by Hohhot Customs, meaning China's first cross-border unmanned transport channel is now open for business.

The channel stretches from the digitalized container port of Gashuunsukhait in Mongolia to the AGV intelligent customs clearance and container supervision facility at Ganqimaodu Port in China, spanning a total length of 6.19 kilometers with a dual four-lane setup and comprising intelligent customs checkpoints and a sealed highway.

On-site observations by journalists from Xinhua News Agency captured AGV unmanned vehicles from Mongolia lining up for entry at the port. The customs' intelligent checkpoints automatically read and verify electronic data of vehicle manifests and cargo lists, granting passage within 30 seconds.

Shang Guimin, the head of Urad Customs, which is under the administration of Hohhot Customs, remarked, "With the opening of the cross-border unmanned transport channel at Ganqimaodu Port, clearance efficiency, cross-border transport capacity, and the level of intelligent application have all increased, further accelerating customs clearance and cargo throughput."

Situated within Urad Middle Banner of Bayannuur city, Ganqimaodu Port shares its northern border with South Gobi Province of Mongolia and serves as the largest road port for cargo transportation in China's border provinces.

The pioneering cross-border cargo transport by AGV unmanned vehicles commenced operations on July 16, 2022, with over 73,000 AGV entries recorded by the end of May this year, transporting more than 4.8 million metric tons of imported goods.
