The Shanghai International Circuit in Jiading district welcomed cyclists aged 12 to 55 on Oct 17 as the Giant Cycling Festival returned for the third consecutive year, giving recreational riders a chance to experience the Formula One track alongside competitive cyclists.
This year's festival featured 11 events, including elite men's road racing, a masters category, and a women's elimination race. The addition of leisure and mass-participation groups broadened the lineup, giving more cycling enthusiasts the chance to ride the same circuit used by world-class motorsport.
Cycling blogger Da Miaomiao joined the leisure group, eager to ride the track for the first time. Another participant, Zang Yuzheng, looked forward to meeting fellow enthusiasts and seeing well-known cyclists in person.
Among the guests was Dutch former professional cyclist Tom Dumoulin, Giant's global brand ambassador and winner of the 2017 Giro d'Italia and the men's individual time trial at the UCI Road World Championships. Beyond meet-and-greet sessions, he joined fellow participants on the track.
During his first visit to Shanghai and its circuit, Dumoulin said it was wonderful to ride alongside so many people who shared his passion for cycling.
Jiading is opening major sports venues and events to the public. Alongside the Chinese Grand Prix and the Tour of Shanghai New City Cycling Race, these events help connect sports with local commerce, tourism, and cultural activities.
