Decorating homes with a pot of butterfly orchid is a tradition of many Nantong locals to welcome the forthcoming Spring Festival, where the flower bears a fortunate meaning that everything will go well.

Workers at the base are busy potting the flowers. They use a steel wire as supports and fix the flowers with clips. Each pot has six, eight, or 12 plants. Designed in different patterns and decorated with Chinese knots and more, the miniscapes are ravishing. [Photo/ntfabu.com]

"With nice colors and easy care, the flower is a must-have for my family every Spring Festival," said Zhang Jingjing, a resident who lives in the Nantong Economic & Technological Development Area and specifically visited the base to buy butterfly orchids.

Afraid of being affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, the base has cultivated fewer varieties of butterfly orchids compared with previous years. There are more than 100,000 butterfly orchid plants making over 7,000 pots which have been basically sold out so far, said Zheng Tao, a sales staff of the base.
