Tongzhou district, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province recently made the list of the 2022 demonstration cities for the consumer goods industry due to its prowess of its textile industry.

Thirty-nine cities in the country were included in the list. Tongzhou district is the only county or district in Nantong that made the list.

The national recognition is the result of the high-quality development of the textile industry in the district. The textile industry is one of the pillar industries in Tongzhou, which has a complete textile industry chain that includes raw material supply, product production, and logistics and delivery.

In 2021, the output value of textile enterprises above the designated size in Tongzhou totaled 33.48 billion yuan ($4.8 billion), accounting for 26.2 percent of the district's total.

Digital research and development have also promoted the upgrading of products in the textile industry in Tongzhou.

Today, the district is home to one provincial smart factory and six smart workshops. There are currently about 200,000 people working in the design, research, and development areas of the textile industry in the district.

In addition, Tongzhou has been making efforts to strengthen the influence of its textile brand. To date, the district has registered 8,216 trademarks, including nine famous Chinese trademarks. It has also applied for a collective trademark of its textile industry.
