Rugao sees rapid development in 2022

The GDP of Rugao, a county-level city in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, is expected to reach 153 billion yuan ($22.29 billion) in 2022, an increase of 3.2 percent, according to the sixth plenary session of the 13th Rugao CPC committee that commenced on Dec 30, 2022.

The city's general public budget revenue is expected to reach 8.45 billion yuan in 2022, and its taxable sales in the industrial and service sectors are expected to reach 186 billion yuan and 170 billion yuan, respectively.

The city also showed strength in foreign trade in 2022. The actual use of foreign investment totaled $405 million and imports and exports were valued at 35.2 billion yuan.

Two new ship routes were opened in the city, and the city saw a container throughput of 580,000 TEUs.

In addition, the city set its development goal for 2023 during the conference.

Its GDP and general public budget revenue are expected to grow by about 6 percent and 9 percent in 2023. The city's R&D investment is expected to account for 2.65 percent of the city's GDP.

Retail sales of consumer goods are expected to increase by more than 6 percent, while investment in fixed assets is scheduled to increase by 6 percent.

The taxable sales and added value of above-designated-size industrial enterprises are both expected to increase by 10 percent, while the output value of industrial strategic emerging industries is expected to account for more than 44.5 percent of total industrial output value.
