The cumulative power generation of the offshore wind farms in Nantong, Jiangsu province, reached a record-breaking 18.392 billion kilowatt-hours in 2024.

The figure surpasses the milestone of 18 billion kWh, sufficient to meet the annual electricity needs of approximately 8 million households.

To ensure the safe and efficient operation of the offshore wind farms, the Nantong maritime safety bureau actively collaborated with local governments and relevant departments to achieve a win-win situation for both navigational safety and economic benefits.

Addressing challenges in the wind power sector, such as long-term management of maintenance vessels and scientific responses to severe convective weather, a coordinated effort involving government departments and enterprises was implemented to coordinate offshore operations and windstorm evacuations, ensuring the high-quality and efficient operation of the city's offshore wind farms.

The development of the offshore wind farm in Nantong can be traced back to as early as 2009, when the world's first intertidal offshore wind farm commenced construction. Through continuous pilot projects and exploration over the past 15 years, Nantong has completed the construction of 23 offshore wind farms, with 1,573 turbines and an installed capacity of wind power amounting to 6.69 million kilowatts.
