Haimen drives tech growth with new investments, projects
Haimen district in Nantong has been making steady progress in promoting technological development in recent years.
Since last year, the district has registered over 400 technology contracts for more than 10 tech service companies, with a total transaction value of nearly 600 million yuan ($82.38 million).
One such company is SYRICI Testing (Nantong) Co Ltd located in Haimen's Linjiang New Area. A subsidiary of Sinochem Holdings' Shenyang Research Institute of Chemical Industry (SYRICI), the company specializes in the registration and safety evaluation of agricultural chemicals, medical devices, disinfectants, cosmetics, and other products. It offers one-stop services for product development, registration, market circulation, waste disposal, standard setting, and risk assessment throughout the product lifecycle.
In 2024, SYRICI Testing completed over 150 technology contracts totaling 20 million yuan. The company is now operating at full production capacity, with its annual business scale exceeding 300 million yuan.
"The reason we chose Linjiang was due to the alignment of construction plans with development strategies," said Feng Yan, the company's quality management manager. After a year of research on various domestic parks and partner companies, SYRICI Testing determined that Linjiang New Area's industrial positioning, investment policies, and business environment offered significant advantages. As a result, the company decided to build their Nantong-Haimen facility as part of its strategic shift to the south.
The gathering of tech companies in Haimen reflects the district's strong efforts to attract technological projects. Last year, Haimen focused on major innovation hubs such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Suzhou, and Central China, hosting more than 40 specialized tech investment events. Over 100 local projects were promoted, with 28 contracts signed. The district recognized 180 tech innovation projects, a 20.8-percent increase from the previous year, and 17 of these projects went on to become high-tech enterprises, accounting for nearly 40 percent of the district's new high-tech companies.
