Two counties in Ordos have made it onto the list of the country’s top 100 powerhouse counties in terms of their overall economic strength, according to a report released on July 19 by CCID Consulting Co Ltd, China's biggest research, consulting and IT outsourcing services company.

The report shows that the two economically prosperous counties in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region are Juungar Banner, placed 32 on the list, and Ejin Horoo Banner, placed at 55.

Counties that want to appear on the list must have annual GDP of at least 40 billion yuan ($5.81 billion) and a general budget revenue topping 2 billion yuan.

The report revealed that 30 counties had a GDP registered at more than 100 billion yuan and the total regional GDP of the 100 counties accounted nearly 10 percent of the national GDP.

Imbalanced distribution of the top 100 counties was also a prominent issue revealed in the report. It found that 71 of the 100 counties were located in eastern China, 19 were located in mid-China, seven were situated in western China and only three were in northeastern China.
