Ordos embroidery wows regional competition

Twelve people from Ordos in Inner Mongolia autonomous region received awards at the Inner Mongolia embroidery competition on July 26. 

The competition was sponsored by the Inner Mongolia Bureau of Culture and Tourism

and was held at the Inner Mongolia Exhibition Hall.

Ordos achieved its best result in the latest embroidery competition, with four embroidery masters winning a first prize, four winning second prize, three scoring a third prize and one prize conferred for excellence.

Ordos has always placed emphasis on preserving its intangible cultural heritage, including its  embroidery. 

The city has now set up 13 workshops to preserve and develop embroidery techniques. Officials said 13 people in the city have been authorized by the local government to be official handicraftsmen responsible for passing down intangible cultural heritage items. 

In August, the first Inner Mongolia Conference for Inheritance and Innovation of Embroidery will be held in Ulan Hot. Three embroidery masters from Ordos will be invited to the event to display their intricate handicrafts.
