Pingchang Economic Development Zone was established with the approval of the Sichuan Provincial People's Government in January 2019. The approved construction area is 300.38 hectares. It governs the Xingguang Area, Majiaping-Hejiaping Area and Sima Area. 

The zone focuses on the development of liquor, food, machinery manufacturing, clean energy and the deep processing of agricultural products. More than 80 enterprises have settled there, including Guangyi Motorcycle Manufacturing, Yuxiang Machinery Manufacturing, Yuanhong Xiaojiaolou, Huayou Zhonglan Energy Co Ltd, and others. It is estimated that more than 140 enterprises will be settled there by the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25).
