For over four decades, Taikai Group has been at the forefront of the power transmission and distribution industry, providing comprehensive solutions for manufacturing and maintaining power transmission and distribution equipment up to one million volts.

As a leader in power equipment manufacturing, Taikai Group, located in Tai'an, Shandong province, has seen its annual revenue grow from 16.1 billion yuan ($2.1 billion) to 25.5 billion yuan in the past three years.

As the company's operations expanded, so did its energy consumption. To meet the increasing demand, particularly during peak usage periods, Taikai Group turned to renewable energy sources. The company installed solar panels across its facilities, generating a substantial portion of its electricity. However, grid fluctuations and high energy costs remained significant challenges.

To overcome these obstacles, Taikai partnered with Tsinghua University in 2022 to develop a cutting-edge smart microgrid. The system incorporates silicon carbide power routers, a 1-megawatt energy storage system, and an advanced microgrid energy management system to create a miniaturized power grid.

Microgrids are primarily powered by distributed energy sources and offer a flexible and independent power supply solution. By utilizing energy storage and control systems, microgrids can effectively meet the varying load demands of applications like office buildings, industrial parks, and commercial complexes, serving as a valuable complement to larger power grids.

The microgrid has effectively addressed several challenges, including the integration of renewable energy, capacity constraints, and grid instability.
