South Korean tourists embrace winter charm of Qingdao

(chinadaily.com.cn) | 2026-01-05

Over 100 South Korean tourists arrived in Qingdao on Dec 31, marking a vibrant, festive start to the new year. This visit is part of a significant tourism surge from South Korea, which has become Qingdao's largest source of international tourists, with 360,000 arrivals in the past year.

The itinerary highlighted Qingdao's diverse attractions. At the 122-year-old Tsingtao Beer Museum, South Korean visitors were impressed by the advanced brewing process and enjoyed immersive experiences like blind tastings.

From Xiaoyushan Hill's panoramic views to the bustling market on Jimo Road, and from the relaxing hot springs at Haiquan Bay to the sacred Taoist Laoshan Mountain, visitors experienced the city's natural beauty and cultural depth.

Convenient one-hour flights from Incheon have made weekend getaways increasingly popular, allowing tourists to enjoy local delicacies like stir-fried clams and freshly tapped beer just like the locals.

Capitalizing on this trend, the city's culture and tourism bureau has launched winter campaigns like the sweet economy theme month and the seagull season. These initiatives blend tourism with romantic experiences and beer culture, increasing the city's appeal.

Benefiting from visa-free policies and frequent flights, Qingdao welcomed 356,000 South Korean tourists in the first eleven months of 2025, with 87 percent visiting for leisure. By deepening cultural and economic exchanges and developing themed tourism products, Qingdao continues to solidify its position as a premier international coastal destination, fostering lasting connections between China and South Korea.
