Shanghai Port implements innovative shipping model for cross-border e-commerce

Shanghai has taken a major step forward in facilitating trade by implementing a new shipping model for cross-border e-commerce, thanks to a collaboration between the Hongqiao International Central Business District (CBD) and Shanghai Port.

A shipment from Shanghai Greengrid in Hongqiao recently became the first to use the 9710 consolidated shipping model. This approach integrates customs declarations with inventory lists, simplifying processes and enhancing efficiency.

Under the supervision of Waigaoqiao Customs, the goods cleared customs at the Shanghai Maritime Cross-Border E-Commerce Operation Center and were transported to the terminal, where they were then loaded onto the Hyundai Platinum vessel bound for Navegantes Port, Brazil.

This initiative marks a breakthrough in Shanghai's efforts to optimize its business environment. Previously, customs declarations and inventory lists were handled separately, complicating logistics and increasing costs. The new model allows for itemized declarations within the same container, improving efficiency and reducing costs. It offers businesses greater flexibility and growth potential.

It also aligns with one of the "Hongqiao 33 Measures" to enhance collaboration between the CBD and Shanghai Port and expand logistics channels for cross-border e-commerce enterprises from the Yangtze River Delta region.

Guided by Shanghai Customs and the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, the CBD's administrative committee worked with local e-commerce firms, the Shanghai Port operation center, and cross-border service platforms to facilitate Greengrid's use of the 9710 model, reducing costs and providing more flexible shipping options.
