Beishan Village, one of the China's historic cultural villages, was established 700 years ago by the Yang family. The architecture in the village, such as that of the Yang Great Ancestral Hall, is in the traditional Guangdong and Guangxi styles of the late Qing dynasty (1644-1911), reflecting exquisite building skills.

All generations of the Yang family have paid great deal of attention of education. They have set up free classrooms and cultivated many famous historic people like Yang Yunji, Yang Zhentao, Yang Zhenhong, Yang Yinglin and Yang Paoan.
