Strong Chinese contingent set for tennis bouts

Top Chinese player Peng Shuai and other native rising stars will compete at the 2016 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women's Circuit Zhuhai from Sept 11 to 18 at the Hengqin International Tennis Center.

Peng is a top-notch veteran who emerged during the golden time of Chinese tennis. Her contemporaries include Li Na and Zheng Jie, also world-renowned Grand Slam winners. Peng Shuai reached a career high world ranking of 17 in singles and her best result in a grand slam event in 2014, when she made it to the top four at the US Open.

In addition to Peng, promising players in the tournament are Zhu Lin, Liu Fangzhou, Lu Jingjing, Lu Jiajing, Zhang Yuxuan, and Tian Ran. They are expected to perform well in their qualifying and main draw matches, according to the organizer, Huafa Group.

Estonian player Anett Kontaveit, who reached the quarterfinals at the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour in Shenzhen and the semifinals in Monterey, is considered a big attraction for this event. A new star from Russia, Evgenia Kulikovskaya, is another powerful player who has claimed a trophy at this season’s ITF Olomouc tournament and played well at the WTA tournament in Prague.

Tennis fans have access to a limited number of free admission tickets from the organizer only if they scan the code at Door 2 at the Hengqin International Tennis Center or visit the ITF’s public official WeChat account.

The ITF Women's Circuit is a series of professional tournaments run by the International Tennis Federation for professional female players.
