Gongleyuan Park was a private garden of Tang Shaoyi (Tong Shao Yi) (1862-1938), a politician and the first Prime Minister of the Republic of China at the end of the Qing dynasty (1644-1911).

Built in the first year of the Qing Xuantong period, it is located on the northern foot of the Eling Hill, Tangjiawan Town, and boasts beautiful scenery. Formerly known as “Small Linglong Hill House”, it was renamed the “Gongleyuan Park” in 1921, meaning happiness with the public.

In 1932, Tong donated the park to the Tangjia Village. The park features lush green trees as well as flowers and fruits. It is home to hundreds of different kinds of rare plants, mostly from Southeast Asian and European countries, and is known as “a small botanical garden”.

Tong’s old home, including an idyllic villa exhibiting Tong's life story, a star gazing tower, and greenhouses, is located in the park. There is also a Hall of Fame displaying famous persons of the Tangjiawan Town, such as the first Prime Minister of the Republic of China Tang Shaoyi, the first president of Tsinghua University Tang Guoan, and Westernization Movement representative Tong King-sing.
