A ceremony to mark seven years of work leading to the capping of several buildings and signing of new key projects took place in Hengqin New Area on Dec 6.

Attending were Edmond Ho Hau-wah, Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) vice chairman and Hengqin New Area Development Advisory Committee chairman; Zhuhai Municipal Party Secretary Guo Yuanqiang; Mayor Zheng Renhao; Liu Bin, director of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao SAR; and All-China Federation of Industry & Commerce vice chairman Su Zhigang.

Seven completed projects are: 

1. Legend Friendship Plaza

The 30,000 sq m plaza is located to the west of Hengqin East Ring Road, opposite Hengqin Port. With investment of about 1.6 billion yuan ($232 million) by Macao Lai Ying Investment Ltd, it is a Sino-Portuguese trading platform featuring fusion of Chinese and western cultures, and integrating retail, entertainment, catering, and shopping facilities.

2. Huarong Hengqin Tower

Invested and constructed by Huarong Real Estate Co Ltd, Huarong Hengqin Tower is located at the Port Service Area covering 19,900 sq m with floor space of 100,000 sq m. The 2.38 billion yuan ($346 million) tower is a commercial composite housing a super five-star hotel, A-class office building, and world-famous brand flagship cluster. 

3. Phoenix Tree Tower

Invested and constructed by Zhuhai Hengqin Guokai Investment Co Ltd, Phoenix Tree Tower is located at the Port Service Area covering 25,000 sq m with a total floor area of 160,000 sq m. The 188 m building, shaped like a phoenix tree, cost about 1.38 billion yuan ($200.5 million). It functions as a seven-star hotel, office building, and shopping mall. 

4. Inno Valley HQ

Located at Hengqin East Ring Road with overall floorage of 136,668 sq m, the Macao-Hengqin Youth Entrepreneurship Inno Valley is the first comprehensive industrial park after the establishment of the Hengqin Free Trade Zone. It aims to become a demonstrative world-leading innovative industrial base and talent accumulation center.

5. Hengqin New Area Air Conditioning System #3 Cooling Station

Invested and constructed by Hengqin Energy Development Co Ltd, the Hengqin New Area Air Conditioning System is located at the Integrated Service Area with Phase-I investment of 456 million yuan ($66 million). Its #3 Cooling Station covers 9,100 sq m with a total cooling load installed capacity of 101,000 kw (29,000 RT). The main building is 74 m long and 50 m wide. The one floor underground has a story height of 8 m. As for the three aboveground floors, the first is 8 m, and the second and third are each 4.5 m high. 

6. Xiangzhou Port Culture Block

Invested and constructed by Zhuhai Jingfu Tourism Development Co Ltd, Xiangzhou Port Culture Block is located in the middle of the Hengqin Island covering about 93,803 sq m with an overall floorage of 160,585 sq m. The 1 billion yuan ($145 million) complex is to be a large theme cultural tourist project featuring Chinese traditional folk arts and crafts. It will integrate exhibitions, leisure activities, tourism, and shopping while catering with folk stores, an exhibition hall, museum, and hotels. 

7. Hengqin Mangzhou Wetland Park 

Phase 1 and 2 of Mangzhou Wetland Park, at a cost of about 150 million yuan ($22 million), has been completed with a 2,000 sq m exhibition hall, 2.94 km ecological seawall main work, and about 60 hectares of landscaping, mangrove forest planting, and wetland dredging. The third phase including a wetland park has been launched at a cost of 500 million yuan ($73 million). It will promote Hengqin New Area as a first-batch national marine ecological civilization demonstration site and ecological protection and construction demo area.  

Examples of signed projects are as follows. 

Second Theme Park of Chimelong International Ocean Tourist Resort 

The Chimelong project will have an investment of at least 50 billion yuan ($7.25 billion) to develop into a world-level tourist resort with several high-grade new projects. It aims to coordinate with the Macao SAR to be a world leisure tourism center, and is expected to receive more than 50 million visitors every year. It includes Animal Kingdom, Sea Kingdom, and Ocean Adventure Park, as well as Ocean Grand Theater and Ocean Museum to the southeast of Fuxiang Bay.  

Guangdong-Macao Industrial Cooperation Park Renwen Place

Macau Cathay Legend Development Limited operates a train of art business and creative industrial organizations and activities. It endeavors to develop commercial value and innovations driven by the art and animation culture sector in terms of business services of cultural and creative industry, art and animation culture tourism and training, and art and culture-related old-age care.

Encompassing a cultural and creative industrial trading platform, and art and animation culture-related tourism and training sessions, the Renwen Place is one of the first 33 projects recommended to settle in the industrial park.
